We're a Joburg-based NPC that will assist the rabbit (rescue) community with education, logistics, fundraising, and eventually setting up sanctuaries.
This is Oliver. This is a good picture of Oliver. This is Oliver. This is a good picture of Oliver. I'll spare you the open wound pic. Luckily his humans reached out and asked for help to catch him. So, we did. We wrangled together a couple of volunteers and staked out the Wendy House he had taken refuge under. The plan worked and mister was nabbed. He's currently at the 24 hour vet. We'd love to continue nabbing dashing Olivers from their hidey holes. Drop us a few ZARs if you want to help. FNB Debit account. A few weeks back I had the opportunity to speak ab A few weeks back I had the opportunity to speak about rabbits at Crawford College, Sandton. What a wonderful experience. What an incredible school. Apart from highlighting the plight of rabbits to what felt like a gazillion learners (quite the daunting task I can tell you), they also collected donations. Instead of collecting what they thought we need, they asked beforehand. Of course, pellets yes, but one would never think vinegar and plastic bags are must-haves for a rescue’s. Vinegar removes their scent. Black bags are always needed. Subsequent to the talk we have had leaners reaching out to volunteer. Most notably, Matthew M, who has been running after rabbits, holding nets, carrying baby rabbits and fetching carriers three Sundays in a row. Along with Rebecca, pictured here, they are a formidable team. If you want ARC to speak at your school, please DM me or send an email to info@arcrabbitassist.com. Thank you to the Domestic Animal Board, Aqua (chair), Avir (vice chair), Asma (board member), and Ms Tredoux for inviting me, collecting donations and just being warm and friendly and open to the plight of rabbits. #ArcRabbit Assist #RabbitWelfare #CrawfordSandton #HumaneEducation #RabbitRescueSA JoburgVolunteers AnimalAdvocacy SandtonCommunity RabbitCare EducateToProtec

UPDATE: Sweetpea was gently laid to rest. The dama UPDATE: Sweetpea was gently laid to rest. The damage was too severe. Sweetpea. This beautiful girl is in serious condition. She's being admitted to @valleyfarmanimalhospital for the night, but the prognosis is not great. I'm not going to list all the wrongs. We are not sure what happened, but for now she is safe and warm. As usual it is a team effort. Lonehill Bunnies took the call, and responsibility and reached out to ARC. We asked @damian_roets and @andrea_wiid to collect and drive to the vet. Keep her in your thoughts. If you can contribute towards her care, please do so. FNB Debit account. ARC Rabbit Assist 63039098173 Use Sweetpe as reference.
We helped @berariobunnies catch TWENTY tame bunnie We helped @berariobunnies catch TWENTY tame bunnies dumped in a green belt. TWENTY. As the rescues are full and stretched thin, they will go to the SPCA if we don't find homes or fosters. They will be PTS, not because the SPCA does not care. They are also stretched thin, underfunded, understaffed. If you can help with a home, with a steri, now is the time to reach out. FNB Debit account. ARC Rabbit Assist 63039098173. UPDATE: Steri sponsored by L. This is a proper d UPDATE: Steri sponsored by L. This is a proper dwarf. (Not the type that pet shops sell as dwarfs. 😂) Weighing in at a fiery 870 grams of attitude. Cuddler. Footy stomper. Ear flicker. Bolt of lightning. Egomaniac. He even charmed @hanneliecoetzee into a long cuddle. He will be available for adoption through @berariobunnies. His crown jewels need to be stolen, so any contribution towards his steri would be appreciated. #adoptdontshop #rabbitsofinstagram #cagesarenotforanimals #freeroamrabbits #steriliseyourrabbit
URGENT CALL We suspect these two are meant to be URGENT CALL We suspect these two are meant to be dinner. If we can catch them, can someone foster them? Adopt them? ARC is not a rescue. We cannot take rabbits in. But we can't let these two be eaten. #adoptdontshop #rabbitsofinstagram #cagesarenotforanimals #freeroamrabbits #steriliseyourrabbit
This bunny is dying. This fragile, beautiful litt This bunny is dying. This fragile, beautiful little thing. Because someone dumped his or her mother. Because someone said it's cute to have rabbits on a pavement, for their grand child to see. Because someone else put their dogs on the mother. Or someone else ran her over. Then rescues sit with the heartache. @berariobunnies drives home with this baby in her shirt to keep it warm, trying to give them some love, some kindness. Stop buying from pet shops. Stop dumping your bunnies. #adoptdontshop #rabbitsofinstagram #cagesarenotforanimals #freeroamrabbits #steriliseyourrabbit
THIS IS A FIRST FOR ME In my six years of rescue THIS IS A FIRST FOR ME In my six years of rescue, I have not encountered a bunny like Parker. Along with @berariobunnies we rescued her from the Methodist Church in Parktown North. Some homeless people were throwing bricks at her, believing she was dinner. Her mate was already run over. I took her home for the night, put her in a playpen and left her to decompress with food, water, a blanket, and a hidey hole. Came back four hours later to find her petrified still, hunkering in the same corner. Food untouched. I climbed into the playpen, knowing full well any traumatised rabbit rescued off the street would freak out. Not Parker. She visibly relaxed. She started eating. She sidled up to me and lay down. I picked her up, cradled her on my lap and she fell asleep peacefully. She was more at peace with a human, than without a human. (Luckily for her this human was not going to eat her.) And that has been our routine for the last 24 hours. She eats, she runs around a bit, then jumps on my lap for a nap. Bliss. She was the Easter gift we always warned about. Bought from a pet shop, dumped two months later. To be run over, or stoned to death and braai’d. She is going to an awesome foster and will be up for adoption. But she’s pretty freaking special, so you better be pretty freaking special. High standards will apply. You can donate towards her care and steri. Drop some ZARs, buy our t-shirts, taste our @rescue_roast coffee. LINK IN BIO

UPDATE ON CADBURY. Thank you to everyone who dona UPDATE ON CADBURY. Thank you to everyone who donated. His hospital stay will be quite extensive, so if you can help, send some ZARs his way. And if you can foster him while he recovers, please DM me. Of course, if you want to adopt him, even better! Video by and message from Lonehill Bunnies. "Spending some precious time with new kid on the block, Cadbury at our vets this morning. It’s Good Friday so opening hours are limited so it will be a quick visit but as I type this, our brave boy is enjoying the sunshine and green grass while exploring the courtyard. We are incredibly grateful to Dr Georgie and Dr Perushan for caring for him and although Cadbury is in a bad condition, the good news is that the extreme groin area swelling has come down a lot overnight so meds are kicking in 💪 Please send positive vibes and much love to Cadbury. Like all large buns, he’s got an incredible personality and would make a fantastic pet so do reach out if you’d consider adopting him please."
